I teach watchmaking once a week at a watchmaking school.
Students study repair for three years, and only those who wish to remain in school for one year make watches.
It is very difficult for an inexperienced person to design and make a watch in one year, and doing it by hand creates additional difficulties.
I thought that by installing a CNC (computer numerical control) machine, I could produce the parts in a very short time.
Since I had no experience with CNC, I decided to study it first and set an example for others to follow.
Since it is difficult to install a large and expensive machine in a school, I installed a relatively inexpensive CNC machine costing about $10,000 in my workshop and began to challenge myself to see how far I could go with this machine.
The result is this watch.
This machine was then installed at the school, and students are now making new watches.
